Women, children join protesters in Hunza, protesting against power outage

The sit-in participants, including, women, children, elderly were on the road despite the minus temperature weather condition.

The local people of Hunza district of Gilgit Baltistan protesting against the power crises entered fourth day on Tuesday, protesters blocked the Karakoram Highway in Ali Abad, which also joined by the women and children after the authorities failed in negotiations.

On the call of Hunza Awami Action Committee and all traders association, the local people staged sit-in in Ali Abad which continued on fourth consecutive day which also forced the women and children to join the rally upon unsuccessful negotiations with the authorities.

The sit-in participants, including, women, children, elderly were on the road despite the minus temperature weather condition.

The rally is also joined by the top leaders of the different political parties, including Baba Jan, Retired colonel Ubaid, Zahoor Elahi and others.

The Karakoram Highway has also been blocked by the protesters and the supply between China and Pakistan also suspended for fourth consecutive day.

Zahoor Elahi and Nasir told The Northern Post that the sit-in participants were strong and committed and participating in the protest with a passion in blood-freezing weather in the area.

They said their demands consisting of uninterrupted power supply to Hunza, provision of two more seats in the Gilgit Baltistan assembly, share in income of border trade and declaring Hunza taxes free zone and holding local body elections in Hunza for the grassroots level development and addressing of issues.

The protesters vowed to sustain the sit-in indefinitely, refusing to disperse until their demands are fully met.
